Pineapple sorbet with a sprinkle of ‘disel pima’ (chili salt)

Is a Port Louis summer night complete without a frozen dessert? Absolutely not! Zorbetteria, a gelato shop at La Paix Street in Port Louis has got your back. Usually open between 20:00 to 23:00, to differentiate from classic ice cream vendors, Zishan Ramtoolah, the founder of Zorbetteria has come up with unconventional creations such as avocado, papaya, hibiscus, longane, grape ice cream, to name a few from the 20 seasonal flavors it offers. He never ceases to amaze his customers who ask for more. But the jaw dropping dessert of the shop is certainly the pineapple sorbet sprinkled with chili salt. Customers come from all over to try this delicacy.

Next time you’re in the mood for ice cream, why not swap your usual vanilla / chocolate for something more unusual? The ‘disel pima’ sorbet, we assure you a treat!

So, what makes ZORBETTERIA so special ?

It all started with an experiment of taking strawberry guavas (goyave de Chine) and turning it into sorbets. It was a revelation and became a best-selling product instantly. Taking suggestions from two loyal customers, ‘disel pima’ – a spicy flavouring made of dried red chilli grounded with salt – was added to the mix to increase the savor, and it did wonders. However, his stock would not last more than a few hours. That is how he went on to make pineapple sorbet with ‘disel pima’ to bring more local flavors.
