  • Onthe 24th August of 2021 at 18h 24, a fire broke out on board the Taiwanese fishing vessel named Ruey Chien Tsai 112 (RCT 112) which was moored at the Quarantine Buoy in front of the National Coast Guard’s Operation Room.
  • The 18 crew members on board the fishing vessel embarked on the sister Vessel Ruay chien Tsai 113 and are sound and safe.
  • 80 meters of fence booms and 120 meters of sorbent booms were placed around the vessel – which has been towed – in order to contain a minor oil spill.
  • The Minister of Environment, Kavi Ramano made a site visit. And the Vice Prime Minister, Dr Husnoo, attended a crisis comittee held at the Capitainerie Building under the chair of Captain Barbeau from Mauritius Port Authority.
  • The National Coast Guard and the Mauritius Port Authority have been coordinating their actions. The MPA has activated the Port Louis Harbour Oil Spill Response Plan. Meanwhile, the NCG has engaged patrols and set up an Incident Command Post (ICP). Its Pollution Response Team is closely monitoring the situation on site.
