Facial recognition software

A maritime logistics company at the Port of Ashdod in Israel is using a smart access control solution to help improve security and efficiency.

Group 207 has implemented Oosto’s facial recognition technology for video surveillance of cargo-handling activities in an attempt to speed operations and security against a backdrop of doubling cargo volumes, pandemic-related supply chain chaos and increasing thefts from containers.

Prior to implementing the OnAccess access control solution, Group 207 ran a manual authorisation process for its cargo handlers resulting in long delays and frustration among contracted drivers.

“Before we implemented Oosto’s facial recognition solution, we had a problem with identification which required a truck driver to provide his paperwork to a receptionist who would then work to identify the driver and certify that the paperwork was correct,” said Ofer Margulis, chief operating officer of Group 207.

“Now, the truck driver just goes to a kiosk, the system recognises the driver and he can access the cargo he came for.”

The company has seen a significant improvement at its 70,000 sqm facility with waiting times down 33-50% per driver, leading to savings in manpower and costs.

“This demonstrates the value that real-time facial recognition can offer logistics service providers in today’s capacity-constrained supply chain environment,” said Ofer Schmidt, Oosto’s sales director for central Europe and Israel.

“We can accurately measure the man-hours saved, both on the part of the drivers and in terms of Group 207’s own manpower, and deliver almost immediate payback.”
